Grace's Room Reveal

I was finally able to take some better pictures of Grace's room. Let's get to the before.

And now the after

Another before

And After

She's already put her mark on the bulletin board with her pics and calendar

I painted the drawers to this dresser dark purple but no picture of that yet.

Here's the rest of the room.

I made some jewelry hangers out of picture frames I got at Hobby Lobby. I have to say the chevron closet door is my favorite thing in the whole room! I'll have a tutorial on that in the next week.

I gave Grace the ric rac and butterflies and asked her to embellish this lampshade. She did an awesome job!
This mirror was my favorite find when I was out shopping. I really wanted to keep it, but it doesn't go with my decor. My boys would have had something to say if I hung a pink mirror. Some day I will have a girlie room in my house just for me and I'll hang a pink mirror!!
And there you have it. Done!

Sneak Peek Grace's Room Reveal

Here's a sneak peak of the teen girl bedroom I recently completed. I'm hoping to get back back over there for real pics at the end of this week.

The distressed chevron closet doors are my favorite thing in the room.  I'll give a tutorial on how I did these later this week. Stay tuned.

How I Pick Paint Colors

Today I was picking paint colors for a baby boy nursery I'm working on. It features this dog fabric that is so adorable.

I thought you might like to know MY process for picking paint colors. I always start with my main fabric. This dog print will be panels and a crib skirt. I might throw in a couple of pillows around the room too.  I'll put denim with it and hopefully I'll be able to find a coordinating stripe or polka dots. With all that, the paint colors will come from the dog fabric.

I want two colors for this nursery. The main wall color and an accent stripe. So out came the paint strips.

I tried to match up the greige color.

I matched up the dog bodies and then went a couple of shades lighter.  I thought the exact color was a bit dark and blah for a babies room, so I settled with Sherwin Williams Proper Gray.
Then I matched up the blue for the accent color that will be a wide stripe.

The blue will be almost the same as one of the blues in in the fabric. Since it's just an accent color it can be a little brighter and have some POW.

There it is! That's how I pick paint colors. Everyone has their own process and there is no right or wrong. This is just what works for me.

This room will be installed the first week of May when the mother is in the hospital giving birth. I will only have a few days, so everything will have to be ready to go.

The Plan

I'm back with a plan for my teenage girl client bedroom makeover. This room is small, so storage is the name of this game. Starting with some Expedit bookcases from IKEA flanking the window wall with a bench in between. One of the bookcases will be a desk also.

The main fabric for the valance, bulletin board and some throw pillows is this colorful PKaufman paisley and floral fabric. I'll add some coordinating polkadots and stripes to go with it.

This is the valance pattern we settled on. It's a Pate Meadows Design, but I think I'll just make my own pattern. It looks fairly easy.

The bedding is from Target. She wanted bright colors, and this fits the bill.

I was at Homegoods the other day and scored this awesome pink mirrored wall decor.

I was walking in the mirror section and saw this little bit of pink sticking out from behind a big mirror. When I pulled it out, I snatched this baby up  fast and put it in my cart.
Next we need to select the paint colors and there will be some surprises along the way.

Sidetracked

I had every intention of doing the One Room Challenge on my bedroom, then life happened. We are starting to think about buying a house in the next year so I'm not going to spend any money on anything for this rental until we figure out what we're doing.  My ORC is semi put on hold. I do have pillows on my bed and am in the throes of making a king size dust ruffle, which means miles and miles of embroidered silk. When I get it done I'll be sure to show my bed, but everything else will not be happening.

I am doing a teenage girl room. We are in the planning stages right now. I'll show you the before. This was done many years ago when she outgrew her baby room. She's now 14 and in NEED of a change.

Bad pictures because I only had my iphone that day.

I'll be back in a few days with the plan.

Before Pictures ORC

Fireplace wall- Figure out how to camouflage antenna and all the cords. This is a non working fireplace so I'm going to DIY a screen with tree slices. Add some accessories

No I didn't make my bed! I made some pillows I'll show next week and I need to do a bedskirt. Maybe some new lamps and figure out what to do with these windows.

I'll probably make some pillows for these recliners. They will be staying. There will be some other stuff, but that's a good start for now.

Come back next week for colors and fabrics.

My own ORC (One Room Challenge)

If you've never heard of the ORC get your little fingers typing and check out these fabulous blogs who were lucky enough to be chosen to participate.

Linda from My Crafty Home Life is the originator of this challenge go here to check out her room and links to all the participants.

I am inspired by the original one Room Challenge to try it myself. Somehow having a deadline always helps. I've been wanting to make my master bedroom in this rental house feel like my own. The windows have paper blinds on them that make me die a little inside every time I look at them. So over the next six weeks, once or twice a week I'll be updating with my accomplishments so far. So check back tomorrow for my before pics. Now off to clean the bedroom so I can take those before pics.
