How I Pick Paint Colors

Today I was picking paint colors for a baby boy nursery I'm working on. It features this dog fabric that is so adorable.

I thought you might like to know MY process for picking paint colors. I always start with my main fabric. This dog print will be panels and a crib skirt. I might throw in a couple of pillows around the room too.  I'll put denim with it and hopefully I'll be able to find a coordinating stripe or polka dots. With all that, the paint colors will come from the dog fabric.

I want two colors for this nursery. The main wall color and an accent stripe. So out came the paint strips.

I tried to match up the greige color.

I matched up the dog bodies and then went a couple of shades lighter.  I thought the exact color was a bit dark and blah for a babies room, so I settled with Sherwin Williams Proper Gray.
Then I matched up the blue for the accent color that will be a wide stripe.

The blue will be almost the same as one of the blues in in the fabric. Since it's just an accent color it can be a little brighter and have some POW.

There it is! That's how I pick paint colors. Everyone has their own process and there is no right or wrong. This is just what works for me.

This room will be installed the first week of May when the mother is in the hospital giving birth. I will only have a few days, so everything will have to be ready to go.

Do you have any before and after pictures of the room?

I will have after pics when the room is installed at the beginning of May.
The family recently moved into a new house and the room that will become the nursery is just an empty white box and I don't have any pictures yet.
